ROPEcast - July 2008

Commitment to pray

At ROPE we are fully committed to pray for the work. Our Lord Jesus himself often withdrew to pray to the Father, for example:

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35

We believe that the prayer of the faithful can lead to amazing out pourings of God's blessings. Jesus said:

“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

These pages are dedicated to our prayers for the work of ROPE and to uphold our partners, ROPEholders, around the world. They are often faced with overwhelming needs and limited resources. Above all they need the Holy Spirit to give them discerning wisdom.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:18

Prayer focus 2008

Wisdom and discernment for our ROPEholders is the theme of our 2008 web prayer. Once a month we will upload an audio track as a prayer starter, comprising the reading and an initial prayer. You may stream online or download in MP3 format for later listening. Just click "Listen" on the right. After you have listened, respond with your own prayers as the Holy Spirit moves by posting on the prayer wall (posts are moderated before being published). Why not also subscribe to our prayer letter?

The ROPEcasts are produced by Tony Houghton of ROPE. Why not pray with him over skype?

July 2008 - Light dwells with Him

Our new prayer wall and podcast started the last Friday of July: feel free to use it as a focus for praying for ROPE at any time through the month of August. Continuing in our theme on wisdom and discernment this month we turn to the book of Daniel. It is the account of King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon and his disturbing dream which he is desperate to have interpreted. It is a story that displays Daniel as a man of diplomacy and faith in corporate prayer. As both the dream and its interpretation are given to Daniel, he praises God and gives him the glory, “He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning,” Daniel 2:21.

The Prayerwall - July 2008

“Lord we read that on hearing of a grave threat to the life of many of the court of Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel’s first act was to enquire tactfully the details of the case. Please help ROPEholders to have wisdom and diplomacy that they might find out what the circumstances of desperate situations are: wrongful imprisonments, economic duress, health inequalities. Help us in the UK to be informed also that we might know the nature of oppression and its locality: that we might be better informed in our prayers.

Father we then read that Daniel asks for time from King Nebuchadnezzar before his murderous summons is carried out. Where it is necessary, please give us more time in front of overwhelming difficulties that we might pray earnestly for resolution. By your grace Jesus, stay the hand of the oppressive leaders that we, across ROPE: ROPEholders, office volunteers and donors, might have more time to pray for your merciful intervention.

This account in Daniel illustrates, Lord, how Daniel sought the company of other believers that prayers of the group might be reinforced. Help us by the means of this internet link, to come together, even around the world, to pray for the work of ROPE and its success in your name.

We believe, Jesus, that as you have promised, when we come together in your name you will be with us. So in faith we expect great blessings from this web prayer. Already therefore, we give you praise for what you are about to do in response to our requests for help. And as you give wisdom to those who are faced with difficult decisions for ROPE, already we praise your name, joining with the words of Daniel, we “thank and praise you, O God of my fathers,” Daniel 2:23.”

Be our strength that we may always lift up the light of the Godpel to bring peace and hope to suffering people. Please pray for our Ropeholders in Cameroon who are seeking to meet the needs of the widows and orphans living with HIV/ASIDS”
