Learning from mistakes
Having agreed to channel funds to Haiti the ROPE team was confronted with a new challenge - how would we let supporters know that it was now possible to donate? Mailing was out of the question because of time and cost. The website might inform a few. We quickly agreed that as we had the email addresses for 50% of our active supporters this would be a practical means of communication. A short factual email was prepared - we pushed the button and our messages disappeared into the ether. Not having done this before we were slightly nervous and wondered what the reaction might be.
Amazing response
The response has been amazing generosity. But in one instance it came from a very unexpected source. Our email system had not filtered out the addresses of our ROPEholders around the world and while our target group had been supporters in the UK, the ROPE family around the world had received our appeal! This was a mistake we would need to rectify for the future.
There's more
That is not the end of the story. Many assured us of their prayer for this response, but one ROPEholder emailed to say that their team of volunteers would be contributing one day's wages to our appeal and they would be sending us the equivalent of £25 for our work in Haiti.
'Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.' 2 Cor 8:2
A humbling lesson to learn from our mistake.
