Lasting memorial to Rachel - December 2009

... a girl who loved to help others

Heather and Ryder Rogers' lives have been tinged with sadness since their beautiful daughter Rachel was taken from them by illness at the age of 28. The anniversary of her death is always a difficult time.
This year, on the 10th anniversary, Heather decided to turn the day into a positive tribute to her daughter. She spent the day doing a sponsored bike ride in the front garden on her exercise bike and raised over £1000 - enough money for several pump wells to be supplied to villages in Cambodia, for a gift to Friends of ROPE, and for a fresh-water well to be drilled in INDIA. This well will supply clean water to a community in Palakonda and it will be named "Rachel's Well". We look forward to bringing you pictures of the well when the work is complete. A lasting memorial of this kind can be achieved for around £600.

Initiative rewarded - December 2009

Our thanks and congratulations go to two special people this quarter...

Cheril Marusic must have a very persuasive personality! Her summer sponsored walk through the Sussex countryside raised a staggering £2267.50 to be shared between the work of ROPE and Friends of ROPE.
We especially value the support for FoR as this fund pays the admin costs of the ROPE charity, enabling us to continue our pledge that 100% of gifts to ROPE will be used for the benefit of the poor.

Dave Hillsdon of Wantage Baptist Church was given a surprise 60th Birthday Party by family, friends and work colleagues. The secret invite carried the words, "we value your presence but not your presents." Party-goers were invited to make a donation to ROPE instead. £1125 was raised for ROPE funds. Dave had thought he was being taken by his wife, Linda, to a quiet dinner for two at a local hotel. As the doors of the reception room were opened, it was a real surprise to find that 120 others were waiting to sing him Happy Birthday.

Brought back the good times! - September 2009

In the last issue we advertised Sheepcote Festival - a fun evening out for all the family. It certainly was and raised just over £1500 for ROPE.
Thank you very much to Dale and Jane Venn and to Phil and Viv Ely for making this possible.
