Uganda - It's a miracle!
(December 2009)
Leaving the past behind
Life has completely changed for children attending the Good Hope Primary school in UGANDA. This time last year their school consisted of a few dark rooms on land that was subsiding. There were no toilet facilities, and the children sat on the floor to do their lessons. Many of the children who attend the school come from poor homes. Some have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS, others live in homes where whole families sleep in one room and the only meal of the day is provided at school. Some children walk 4 - 5 km each way to school and reach home too exhausted to do their homework.
Transformation
Earlier this year a plot of stable land was rented close to the old school and a toilet block was constructed using funds provided by ROPE. Now, thanks to a further ROPE grant of £3447, three new classrooms have been built. The students now have desks, chairs and textbooks and the poorer ones have also been provided with uniforms, sportswear, exercise books, pens and pencils. Members of the school are anxious that donors sense and share in their excitement at this miracle that has brought hope for the future.
