Osege, 64, has 11 married children and is currently caring for 8 of his grandchildren. He describes his whole life as one of survival, depending solely on farming in often extreme weather conditions. Though he has farmed for 50 years, he has struggled due to the poor methods he has used.
By applying the training in the pilot year to his crops of rice, soya and cassava, he succeeded in increasing his yields and, at the time of reporting, had gained 204,000UGX from his rice and soya crops. He has saved this to use towards the school fees for his grandchildren’s education. He feels this is the best gift he can give to them.
