Blog Sponsored Knit Heather, a long-term and very valued supporter of Rope, has reached a very significant milestone. We are too polite to share a lady’s age, but Heather has decided rather ingeniously that she wants to bless others rather than asking for gifts and presents for herself. So on 22nd February she marked her birthday knitting! Yes, you have read that right. Heather successfully completed a 10 hour knit-a-thon at her home in Dorset. Over 50 friends and family members popped in during this marathon knitfest to wish her well, and enjoyed a cup of tea and homemade biscuits and scones. They also gave generously helping Heather raise £400 for Rope – one of her chosen charities. Helping women in DR Congo Heather chose to support Rope’s partners in DR Congo who provide vocational training for vulnerable women – sex workers – so they can learn to sew and tailor and either find jobs or run their own sewing business. Each young woman is given a sewing machine on completing her course. Each machine costs £130. Heather's knit-a-thon will help to buy women sewing machines. Previous events have included cycling 50 miles on her exercise bike to raise money for a well in India in memory of her daughter Rachel and raising enough money to donate 70 mosquito nets to our partners in India. We are so grateful Heather took on another challenge for Rope and impressed that she had the whole day planned out - preparing lots of different items to knit - teddies for the local hospital and hats for Sailors Society. To alleviate any tiredness from the constant clicking on needles, she prepared lots of items that needed sewing and set up different workstations in her home so she could sit and enjoy different tasks as the day progresses. Heather, you are a star and we we thank you for blessing Rope and our partners in this way!
