Felix, 25,

has been known to our partners Kibbutz El Shammah in South Africa for many years and was one of the first men to be helped when they launched their Change Maker programme in 2011.

Through their detox and rehab programme our partners seek to help men from the ghetto of Roodeval, Worcester near Cape Town to turn away from their lives of drugs and gangs and be strong men in Christ.

Father to the Fatherless

With an estimated 80% of families not having a father figure, the need for this work cannot be underestimated and our partners are delighted to report that many of the men they work with are able to reconcile with families and be the fathers the Lord calls them to be.

Though Felix responded to the programme in 2011, the lack of a residential provision meant that he couldn’t maintain his sobriety and fell back into his old ways, spending time in prison.  It was during this period of incarceration that Felix reconnected with our partners and asked for their help once more.

With Rope’s support our partners are now able to offer a 3 month residential programme with a 7 day detox inbuilt.   Our support has also helped bring in Sister Gabriel, who is a very experienced detox specialist, who is able to medically assess all applicants and is on hand with care and support during the detox.

Felix's transformation

Felix started in January and is now at the final stage of the programme.  Though remaining at the residential centre he is being re-introduced into mainstream society and supported to find work.  He has also attended a 6 week discipleship course at a local church and was recently baptised.

Felix is keen to provide for his young son, so is working hard to apply for work, opening a bank account and learning to budget his money.  These men have often missed out on gaining these key life skills as their childhood has been chaotic and schooling has been sporadic or non-existent.

We are thankful that Felix responded to God’s call upon his life and continue to pray for him at this crucial period within his recovery.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
