“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” Mark 9:37

Naivasha is a market town on the shore of Lake Navaisha, north west of Nairobi.  As a very popular tourist destination it has a darker side, being home to many young boys driven to the streets because of poverty, hunger, abuse and neglect at home.

Life on the street is incredibly harsh.  Isolated from the community, boys as young as seven are forced to beg and steal for food. Bullying and fighting among the boys is common place.  They are offered little protection from the police who see them as trouble and unless helped the boys can die in fights, from disease or be lynched by mobs if caught stealing.

Our work

I was so happy to find a new home with plenty of food and where I could sleep without fear.

Rope has been supporting the work of Sunshine Rehabilitation since 2013.  Our partners offer a home and education for 124 boys who have been living on the street for many years.  Sunshine funds their education and vocational training from primary to higher education and provides a Christian home which helps build the boys physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Where possible, our partners seek to reconcile the children and young people with their families.

Over the years the home has extended its provision and now operates a farm which not only grows vegetables for the home but also keeps livestock.  All of the boys are encouraged to help at the farm, carrying out different duties according to their age.

Since its launch, Sunshine has seen 104 boys grow into adults.  They are now successfully employed working as builders, salesmen, welders and mechanics.  Some, like Cyrus, have gained degrees and diplomas.  Read Cyrus' inspiring story.

It costs £20 a month to support boys at Sunshine

Through our Brighter Futures Group Schemes, Rope supports the boys at Sunshine Home.

Brighter Futures aims to create a strong foundation for vulnerable children. All the homes are close to good schools and our Christian partners create loving and caring family homes which nurture the children.
