WW4W 2020

This year sees the return of our popular walking event, Women Walking for Women (WW4W). WW4W 2020 will be our 4th year of walking and over the years we have raised £55,000 for women’s projects throughout the world. This year, despite the current situation, we still want to raise money and support women. Like many of you, we have been watching the Covid-19 situation carefully and for the safety of everyone we will be running (or walking!) this event from home. But despite the situation we are facing now we still want to change the lives of women in DR Congo, like Jeanne.

Jeanne’s story

Jeanne, a bright young woman, was robbed of hope through prostitution, but with Rope’s support she can dream again. In September, we’re looking for 50 women to walk 10 miles from home to help unlock her dreams. Each woman who comes to the BOMO centre in Kinshasa, DR Congo has travelled many miles and experienced much hardship in her young life. Many begin their life of prostitution as teenagers due to extreme poverty and family breakdown.

They are just like any teenager. They have hopes and dreams, but find themselves selling their bodies each day just to eat and locking up their childhood dreams. Rope and partners BOMO want to help these women to unlock their childhood dreams and begin to hope again.

BOMO’s residential programme offers vocational training in sewing and tailoring and a loving and caring Christ centred home so these women can re-build their lives and leave able to unlock her hopes and dreams. Even during the Covid-19 lockdown situation we are still able to support the women at BOMO. They have been able to complete distance learning and the women in the residential facility have been sewing and selling masks.

On the weekend of 19th/20th September we are looking for women to take a significant walk. We want you to walk 10 miles so women at BOMO can unlock their dreams. The route you take is your choice. You may want to break up the 10 miles over a few days or you may want to challenge yourself to run it! You could walk by yourself or walk as a group, as per the government guidelines in September.

Over the weekend, though we will walk separately and however we all do it, we want to collectively walk 500 miles and raise money to unlock the dreams of women in D.R. Congo.

Please join us and sign up today using the form below.

How it will work

  • Book your place and pledge to walk 10 miles from your home on the weekend of 19th/20th September.
  • Join our closed Facebook group – we will send you the link. This group will be the portal, where we will share all the information you will need to prepare for your walk. This is the hub where we can become a community “walking together virtually if not in person.”
  • Set up a Fundraising Page so you can get sponsorship for your walk and aim to raise £100. We can give you all the help you need to set up your page.
  • Download a walking app, which will measure your practise walks and the ones you do on the weekend, which will evidence that you completed your challenge! We are using Strava – find us under the club name ‘Rope Walk’.
  • Let’s get walking!
